Leadership Spotlight: Kevin Rogers, CPA

When Kevin Rogers began his career in finance, he didn’t expect to spend more than three decades in home care. But after auditing a home care agency as a young senior manager at Deloitte & Touche, something clicked. “At the time, healthcare wasn’t a big part of Deloitte’s practice,” he recalls. “But there was something about home care that felt different. It mattered in a very personal way.”
That sense of purpose has defined his 35-year career. Since first joining VNA Health Group in 2005, Kevin has played a central role in the organization’s financial and operational strength through partnerships, expansions, leadership transitions, and the ever-changing challenges of the healthcare landscape. After a few years away, he returned to VNA Health Group in 2018, drawn once again to the mission that had shaped his professional life.
“I ran into Dr. Steve Landers at an airport,” Kevin says with a smile, “and he said, ‘I could really use you back at the VNA.’ Not long after that, I was back.”
That conversation marked the start of his second chapter with VNA Health Group, first as Senior Vice President of Special Projects and Chief Strategy Officer, and eventually as Chief Financial Officer. When longtime COO Peter Gaylord retired, Kevin stepped naturally into the dual role of COO and CFO, positions that reflect both his strategic depth and his steady hand.
“It’s not common for one person to hold both roles,” he acknowledges. “There’s an inherent tension between wanting to push operations forward and needing to weigh the financial impact. But I’ve got a great team that keeps me balanced, and that makes all the difference.”
A Steady Hand Through Change
Over the years, Kevin has led through mergers, system integrations, and the growth of VNA Health Group’s hospice, home care, and community health operations. During the height of the pandemic, when VNACJ Community Health Center (CHC)needed immediate leadership, he stepped in to stabilize operations and rebuild its financial infrastructure.
“I became the CFO there for five years,” he says. “It wasn’t something I planned, but that’s what you do when you’re part of a team; you go where you’re needed.”
Today, Kevin continues to guide both financial and operational strategy while mentoring the next generation of leaders, including CHC Controller and Director of Nonclinical Services John Zim and VNA Health Group Controller & Senior VP of Finance Scott Carmosino, CPA. “Ultimately, I see part of my job as making sure others are ready to take the reins,” he says. “Scott’s incredibly strong on the finance side, and John has done a great job at the CHC. I’m fortunate to work with such capable people.”
A Philosophy of Service
For Kevin, the numbers are only part of the story. What’s kept him in home care for more than three decades is a deep respect for the mission and the people behind it.
“I may not touch or talk to patients directly, but I feel as though my job is to make sure everyone who does has the tools and resources they need,” he says. “In home care, everything you do should ultimately support the person at the end of the line—the patient. That’s what it’s all about.”
He views home care as a calling. “You don’t stay in this industry unless you care deeply about making a difference,” he adds. “And what’s special about home care is how collaborative it is. Even among competitors, there’s a shared belief that if you’re doing better, we’re all doing better. We all want to elevate the entire field.”
That spirit of collaboration and compassion extends to VNA Health Group’s internal culture. “What people should know about this management team is that we truly care, not just about patients, but about our employees,” he says. “If you take care of patients and employees, the bottom line takes care of itself. That’s how we’ve been around for more than a century.”
Looking Ahead
Reflecting on the pace of his career, Kevin shares his thoughts with humor and gratitude. “A 40-hour week feels like a vacation,” he jokes. “But I’m fortunate to do work that matters, with people who care.”
Outside of work, he and his wife are embracing traveling to other countries and spending time with their four children and their spouses, and with their soon-to-be six grandchildren.
This December, VNA Health Group will honor the Rogers Family at its annual Holiday Bash for their continued commitment to the organization’s mission and community. For Kevin, the recognition is both humbling and full circle.
“It’s not just my story—it’s our family’s story,” he says. “The VNA has been such a big part of my life for so long, and being able to give back, both personally and professionally, has been a privilege.”
Kevin remains focused on what has always driven him: the patients, the employees, and the shared sense of purpose that defines the VNA family. “At the end of the day, that’s what makes this place special,” he says. “Everyone here believes we make a difference, and that’s why we do it.”
