Beloved Home Health Aide John McCarthy Recognized for Outstanding Patient Care by Home Care and Hospice Association of New Jersey

Beloved Visiting Nurse Association Health Group home health aide John McCarthy was recognized among top home health aides in New Jersey by the Home Care and Hospice Association of New Jersey on October 18. McCarthy was recognized for his outstanding dedication to patient care.

Marge Rumsey, his supervisor, is the Ancillary Service Manager at Visiting Nurse Association Health Group said, “We receive weekly letters of recognition for John so it’s no surprise that he was recognized this year. He sees seven patients a day for at least one hour. When patients are discharged and come back to use our services, they only ask for John. He’s truly an amazing caregiver and person.”

About John

McCarthy has been employed with the VNA Health Group for 22 years. He is the recipient of “Hospice Aid of the Year” by the New Jersey Hospice & Palliative Care Organization in 2006 and “Home Health Aide of the Year” two times by VNA Health Group, an award given annually to a VNA Health Group Home Health Aide who exemplifies outstanding service at VNA Health Group.

John received recognition as “Clinician of the Year” by the Visiting Nurse Association of America (VNAA) in 2008. He became the first home health aide received the award in VNAA’s history.

“John is an amazing person and always has a smile on his face,” said Lisa Zwerdling, MSN, RN-BC, Chief of Employee Experience Officer and VP of Internal Care Coordination. “He is one of the most positive and compassionate people you will meet. I have known him since he started and have heard so many compliments about him over the years. A well-deserved award!”

“People open their doors and welcome us into their homes at a very fragile part of their lives,” McCarthy said. “With compassion, good intentions and a skilled team, we are able to provide excellent services to our patients. To me, it doesn’t matter what player makes the winning point, it takes the entire team to win.”
