Bequests

What is a charitable bequest?

A charitable bequest is a distribution from your estate to a charitable organization, like the VNA, through your last will and testament.

General Bequest

A specific dollar amount from your estate left to a charitable organization.

Specific Property

The donor bequests specific assets such as named securities, real estate or piece of property.

Specific Bequest Language: I give, devise and bequeath _____________ (insert dollar amount or item of property to be donated) to VNA Health Group or its successor organization, a nonprofit corporation as described in section 170 (c) of the Internal Revenue Code with national headquarters located at 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701.

Residuary Bequest

The donor leaves the residue portion of estate assets after other terms have been satisfied.

Residuary Bequest Sample Language: I give, devise and bequeath ________ (insert % amount) of all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to VNA Health Group, or its successor organization, a nonprofit corporation as described in section 170 (c) of the Internal Revenue Code, with headquarters located at 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701.

Contingent Bequest

In the event of other beneficiaries’ death, the donor leaves the estate to a charitable organization.

Contingency Gift Sample Language: Takes effect only if a primary intention can’t be met. If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, or shall die during the administration of my estate, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give to VNA Health Group or its successor organization, a non-profit corporation as described in section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code, with headquarters located at 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701.

Retirement Plan

The donor designates a charitable organization as the beneficiary of an IRA, 401k, Keogh, tax-sheltered annuity or other qualified pension or profit sharing plan.
